Ghost Tequila nabs ex-Tito’s international MD
By Rupert HohwielerJohn McDonnell has joined Ghost Tequila as an executive chairman of the board following his departure from Tito’s.

McDonnell left his post as managing director of international sales at Tito’s last December after spending 12 years with the Texan vodka brand.
He helped to lead the brand’s worldwide expansion to where it’s now available in 150 countries.
McDonnell has previous experience in Tequila, as president, international and chief operating officer at Patrón for eight years.
Prior to Patrón he spent 20 years in global leadership positions at Seagram’s.
On joining Ghost, McDonnell said: “Ghost Tequila is one of the few brands in the spirits industry that genuinely has all the elements for success – an innovative product with standout packaging, national distribution backed by a strong team, and, above all, a bold and distinctively spicy flavour profile.
“I’m honoured and excited to step into this new role and to help shape the next chapter of growth for this truly unique brand.”
In his board role McDonnell will work closely with the company’s team and CEO Dave Gordon to accelerate growth initiatives and strengthen relationships with the brand’s partners, distributors and investors.
Ghost is currently distributed across all 50 US states and is available in select international markets in the Caribbean, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Ghost Tequila’s recipe sees 100% Weber Blue Agave infused with a pinch of spice from the bhut jolokia, which is known as the ghost pepper.
The spicy Tequila brand is based in Boston in the US.
