Ferrand debuts Dry Curaçao Tropical

French spirits producer Maison Ferrand has released a rum-based tropical liqueur as part of its Dry Curaçao range.

Designed to bring versatility into cocktail making, Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical blends Barbados rum with sweet and bitter orange peels.

Tropical joins the brand’s lineup, which includes Ferrand Dry Curaçao Original and Yuzu Late Harvest liqueurs.

The liqueur is inspired by early 19th-century Caribbean traditions, particularly the Caribbean Shrubb – a popular beverage of that time – made from rum, citrus peels, sugar, and local spices such as cinnamon, clove, or nutmeg.

To make a shrubb, the ingredients were slowly macerated for weeks to allow the flavours to develop in the rum fully.

Shrubbs were enjoyed on their own and also served as essential components in Punches and festive drinks, especially during festive celebrations like Christmas.

Developed by Alexandre Gabriel, owner and master blender of Maison Ferrand and Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, alongside spirits historian David Wondrich, Dry Curaçao Tropical pays tribute to both everyday and celebratory Caribbean life.

With the new on-trade-focused liqueur, Gabriel and Wondrich aim to revive a forgotten rum-based style of curaçao rather than the traditional brandy-based style, bringing the historic recipe to life in today’s cocktails.

Dry Curaçao Tropical is said to offer bartenders a citrus liqueur specifically designed to enhance rum cocktails and Punches, as well as tiki-inspired and tropical classics.

Gabriel said: “Dry Curaçao Tropical is pure sunlight in liquid form. The rum gives it depth, the oranges bring energy and brightness. It doesn’t just sit in a cocktail; it drives it. This is a curaçao designed to transform drinks.”

Ferrand Dry Curaçao Tropical (40% ABV) is now available in key European markets in a 700ml format, with a recommended retail price of €29.90 (US$35).

The initial launch will be followed by a February release in Barbados and the Caribbean Community (Caricom) countries, with further expansion across the Asia Pacific region scheduled for spring.

Maison Ferrand owns several brands, including Citadelle Gin, Planteray Rum, and Ferrand Cognac.

Earlier this month, the company released a non-alcoholic Citadelle ‘spirit’.
