SB’s 12 Drinks of Christmas – Portobello Butter Gin
By Georgie Collins‘Tis the season for butter to be officially classed as one of the core food groups – bad news for our cholesterol, but great news for SB‘s seventh Drink of Christmas.

Just when you thought the festive season couldn’t get any more indulgent, All Things Butter – the cult British butter brand shaking up supermarket shelves – has teamed up with the iconic Portobello Road Distillery to churn out something truly decadent.
Chef Thomas Straker’s dairy wizardry meets London gin heritage, and the result is a small-batch collaboration that feels like Christmas luxury in a glass.
The teams took Portobello Road’s classic 171 London Dry Gin and gave it the full festive treatment: a butter fat wash using All Things Butter, twice churned for maximum creaminess, before being re-distilled into a base so silky it practically sleigh-rides across your palate.
The finished gin? Smooth, rich, and velvety, with a whisper of sweetness that makes an ice-cold Martini feel downright magical. It’s the kind of cocktail moment that makes you want to pull on your cosiest jumper, cue up some Christmas tunes, and toast to the most deliciously indulgent time of the year. Cheers to butter, to gin, and hopefully surviving the holidays without developing gout.
Priced at £33 and limited to just 1,000 bottles, the All Things Butter x Portobello Road Distillery Butter Gin is the perfect gift this Christmas for those who appreciate conversation-starting spirits. Available exclusively from Ocado and PortobelloRoadDistillery.com
How to drink it
The All Things Butter Gin Martini

- 75ml Portobello Road Distillery All Things Butter Gin
- 10ml Vermouth*
- 15ml Freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 Broad strip of lemon peel
- 1 Fresh lemon twist
Method: Chill your glass thoroughly (and while you’re at it, chuck the bottle in the freezer at the same time for good measure – no-one likes a warm Martini). Once ready, add the All Things Butter Gin, vermouth and lemon juice into a mixing glass and drop in the broad peel. Charge with ice and stir a few dozen times until silky – about 20-30 seconds. Fine-strain into your chilled glass and express the oils of a lemon rind over the surface, coating the rim, then place the twist on the glass or float it.
*The official recipe doesn’t call for vermouth, but we say its not really a Martini without it. However, if you want to be a stickler for the rules, feel free to make it without.
