Old Forester pays homage to Prohibition
By Lauren BowesBrown-Forman’s Old Forester has added to its 117 Series with Prohibition Era Still Proof, a limited release for Repeal Day.

The release nods to Old Forester’s past as one of the few distilleries legally permitted to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes during Prohibition.
The whiskey is bottled at 65% ABV, the same strength as Old Forester during the 100-day distiller’s holiday a few years before the repeal of Prohibition.
During this period in the 1930s, a select group of government-authorised distillers were granted licenses to replenish whiskey stocks for medicinal use.
“This release is a tribute to the ingenuity that allowed Old Forester to endure and emerge stronger during one of the most challenging periods for American whiskey,” said Caleb Trigo, assistant master distiller. “This Bourbon offers a glimpse into the intensity and authenticity of our Prohibition heritage.”
The whiskey was released on Repeal Day (5 December), which marks the end of Prohibition in 1933.
To coincide with the launch, the Old Forester Distillery held a Repeal Day celebration, where guests could sample the newest release.
Old Forester 117 Series: Prohibition Era Still Proof is available in limited quantities from the brand’s website and select Kentucky retailers. It retails for US$64.99.
For last year’s Repeal Day, the brand selected a whiskey from its Warehouse I.
