Kaveri liqueur brings real ginger to cocktails

Following a soft launch in 2023, exotic ginger liqueur Kaveri has officially launched in six markets, including the UK.

Founded in 2023 by Varun Sarna, the liqueur is made with 100% real ginger, jaggery, lime, and black salt.

Kaveri’s official launch is accompanied by an updated packaging design, created in collaboration with the Land agency.

The brand is named after the sacred river in Karnataka, referred to in ancient Tamil literature as ‘Ponni,’ meaning the life-giving ‘golden mother’.

Inspired by the familiar flavours of Sarna’s upbringing,  he explained: “I wanted to bring that authenticity from home. I grew up around ginger, jaggery, lime and black salt. And came of age in an era where street food culture started taking off, where second-gen immigrant kids like myself wanted to showcase their mothers’ cooking to the rest of London.”

“Without trying, we’ve found people have connected with that. We get people from China or Jamaica saying, ‘That’s real ginger, that’s the ginger I grew up with’.

“What I’ve found is that ginger is one of the world’s most beloved ingredients – Kaveri brings this to the drinks space in a way that respects the natural ingredients it’s crafted from.”

According to Sarna, Kaveri celebrates imperfect, unrefined flavours: “Ginger really reflects the cuisine that many of us with diverse backgrounds grew up with. Take Indian, Thai, or Jamaican food – the cooking is ‘unrefined’, it’s visually imperfect, but it’s perfectly delicious. It’s bold and represents real, authentic flavour.”

Offered at 20.3% ABV, the liqueur is said to bring real ginger flavour to cocktails such as a Margarita, Penicillin, Whiskey Ginger Highball, Dark ‘n’ Stormy, and Hot Toddy.

Kaveri is served at The Dorchester, Claridge’s, The Ivy Collection, Greene King, and Turtle Bay, and is distributed in the UK by Liana Collection.

It is also now available across all 14 Amathus locations, as well as from The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt, and Amazon, with an RRP of £25.99 (US$35) for a 500ml bottle.

Outside the UK, the brand is available in Ireland, Switzerland, Qatar, the Maldives, and the United Arab Emirates.
