Disaronno recalls bottles amid fear of glass contamination
By Rupert HohwielerBottles of Italian liqueur Disaronno have been recalled from stores in the UK over possible glass contamination.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) put out a notice on Tuesday (9 December) regarding the presence of small pieces of glass within some 700ml bottles of the brand’s Originale liqueur.
Bottles at risk of having glass within them bear the batch codes 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444.
Parent company Illva Saronno is in the process of recalling the products and point-of-sale notices have been displayed in all retail stores selling them.
The FSA advises consumers who have bought the products with the batch codes to return them to the stores of purchase for a refund or replacement.
Disaronno is also dealing with a similar situation in Ireland. On Monday 8 December, The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued a recall of batches 25371 and 25372 of Disaronno Originale 500 Years, due to possible presence of micro-fragments of glass.
Parent company Illva Saronno commented: “Illva Saronno has voluntarily decided to recall from the UK market certain bottles of Disaronno Originale 700ml belonging to a limited number of batches, due to an anomaly detected on one of its bottling lines.
“According to the investigation performed, the potential presence of glass micro-fragments affected only 0.17% of the impacted 700ml bottles, which have been withdrawn from the market.
“All other formats (1l and 500ml), as well as all the Limited Edition series sold in the UK, were not affected by the anomaly. Therefore, none of the major grocery retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Morrisons are impacted.
“Illva Saronno took immediate action to resolve the anomaly, to ensure consumer safety in coordination with the UK food safety authorities and instructed all the impacted customers to immediately remove the stock affected. Illva Saronno confirms its ongoing commitment to ensuring product quality, transparency towards consumers and compliance with the UK food safety standards.”
In June, Illva Saronno reported that its UK subsidiary, Disaronno International UK, is the only top 20 spirits supplier in growth in the UK on-trade, citing CGA by NIQ data. Disaronno Originale Italian Liqueur is said to be one of leading brands driving growth for the company.
Disaronno celebrated its 500th anniversary this year, which Illva Saronno CEO Marco Ferrari discussed with The Spirits Business in Rome in June, along with the group’s future plans.
SB recently visited another of Illva Saronno’s brands, The Busker, to chat about the Irish whiskey’s ‘new journey’ in 2026.
