Buffalo Trace has added a new edition to its Sazerac Rye’s permanent range, bottled at 125 proof (62.5% ABV).

The new ‘elevated’ release follows the completion of Buffalo Trace’s recent US$1.2 billion expansion and joins the brand’s existing portfolio of 90 and 100-proof expressions.

Harlen Wheatley, master distiller at Buffalo Trace, said: “We’re excited to bring another full proof option to fans after they’ve expressed their love for our WL Weller and Benchmark full proof offerings. Our expansion is 10 years in the making, and it’s rewarding to see how it’s already allowing us to create more of these whiskeys while maintaining the quality our fans expect.”

Inspired by the spirit of New Orleans, Sazerac Rye Whiskey aims to capture the character of the city with ‘a bold, timeless, and unapologetically’ character. Originally a bartender’s favourite, it has transformed into a favourite among connoisseurs.

The introduction of Full Proof is said to showcase the versatility of Sazerac Rye and highlight Buffalo Trace Distillery’s commitment to delivering exceptional whiskey experiences for enthusiasts.

Bottled at 62.5% ABV, the expression is said to amplify the brand’s signature spicy, peppery, and dry profile, creating ‘an intense sipping whiskey’ with aromas of rye spice, fresh dill, and smoky oak. On the palate, the whiskey presents sweet, floral, and herbal notes, complemented by oak and classic rye flavours.

Andrew Duncan, global brand director of Buffalo Trace Distillery, said: “Rye whiskey is the perfect next step for whiskey drinkers looking for more flavour. Sazerac Rye’s unique, balanced, Kentucky-style recipe makes it the brand that whiskey drinkers have trusted for years.

“Sazerac Rye Full Proof amplifies the brand’s floral notes of vanilla and clove, along with fruity hints of orange, with just a touch of pepper, proving that rye whiskeys aren’t just great in cocktails – they shine on their own.”

The new expression is available in select markets at designated retailers, bars, and restaurants, with a suggested retail price of US$39.99 per 750ml bottle through Sazerac’s US distributor networks.

Visitors to the distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, can enjoy a premium tasting experience featuring Sazerac Whiskey Rye Full Proof from Friday 14 November through Sunday 16 November.

The tasting features the entire Sazerac Rye Whiskey portfolio, including Sazerac Rye 90, 100, and Full Proof, as well as the 18-year-old Sazerac Rye from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.

Tickets for the Sazerac Rye Vertical Tasting are available for US$10 on the distillery’s website, offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Earlier this week, Buffalo Trace partnered with Buffalo Field Campaign to offer consumers a unique opportunity to sample its Bourbon at a tasting room located on the open plains of Wyoming.
