Elijah Craig releases Bourbon-inspired cologne
By Rupert HohwielerHeaven Hill-owned Elijah Craig has stepped into the fragrance game with Char No. 3, a cologne inspired by the brand’s Bourbon.

Titled Elijah Craig Char No. 3, the cologne was developed and manufactured by Crafting Beauty, a Paris-based company that creates bespoke fragrance and beauty products. Its formulation was handled by Symrise, which drew from the charred oak staves used for ageing Elijah Craig’s Bourbon.
The name refers to the level 3 charred oak barrels used in every batch of the Bourbon.
Max Stefka, Heaven Hill’s associate vice president of global whiskey brands, said: “Elijah Craig’s pioneering approach to Bourbon-making, especially the art of barrel charring, has always been about craftsmanship, depth, and character.
“Those same qualities naturally lend themselves to a fragrance – one that captures the spirit of our legacy through a rich, layered scent experience that feels unmistakably Elijah Craig.”
The cologne aims to capture the ‘transformative moment where fire and oak meet’ – as oak barrels are charred for Bourbon ageing.
It contains botanicals reminiscent of Kentucky’s landscape, such as juniper berry, lavandin and orange blossom, as well as offering smoky notes of nutmeg, oak barrel and birch wood.
Anchored by the ‘warm richness of vanilla and cocoa’, the brand says the scent ‘unfolds with depth and character’, ‘enveloping the senses in a lasting impression that’s both timeless and modern’. Its layers of charred wood, spice and a subtle sweetness are reminiscent of the brand’s small batch Bourbon.
Elijah Craig Char No. 3 can be pre-ordered on Heaven Hill’s website for US$49.99 and in limited quantities at Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience in Bardstown, Kentucky.
In other Elijah Craig news, the brand was a sponsor of this year’s Ryder Cup, which was held in September. It also brought its Toasted Barrel expression to the UK.
Its owner, Heaven Hill, recently officially opened doors to its new Springs Distillery.
