Black Tears Rum launches bag in box for bars
By Miona MadsenIsland Rum Brands-owned Black Tears Dry Spiced Rum has introduced a five-litre bag-in-box format for the global on-trade.

The new format aims to provide a more sustainable packaging option for the brand’s on-trade customers.
The five-litre Black Tears Dry Spiced pack offers full recyclability and provides greater flexibility for venues, particularly those serving cocktails on tap or pre-batched drinks.
The packaging is said to take up less storage space and help reduce cocktail costs.
Initially launched in France and the Netherlands, the new format will next be introduced in Hong Kong and the UK.
Loïc Parola, general director of Pardela Wines & Spirits, Black Tears’ exclusive distributor in France, said: “The market for premium spirits in bag in box has evolved a lot in France in the last few
years.
“A bag in box offers the opportunity to reduce costs while maintaining optimal quality for the on-trade customers. It allows them to maintain healthy margins while offering a better experience to their guests via using premium spirits in cocktails.”
The five-litre container will be available in all 45 markets where Black Tears is currently distributed, with a gradual launch expected throughout 2026.
According to Helena Zakmane, international commercial and marketing director of Island Rum Brands, the format was launched to meet the needs of the on-trade.
“The demand came directly from the trade and we listened,” Zakmane explained. “This packaging option ticks all the boxes for the current needs in the hospitality industry when it comes to spirits: storage space optimisation, glass waste reduction, and careful cost management while maintaining high quality of the offering.”
Black Tears, along with its sister brand La Progresiva, will be showcased at the Pardela Spirits stand during Wine Paris 2026, from 9-11 February, in the Be Spirits hall.
