Aperol debuts gloves for al fresco winter drinking
By Rupert HohwielerCampari Group-owned Aperol has introduced a pair of gloves made from part-recycled orange peel to help Brits brave the cold when outdoor drinking this winter.

Research commissioned by the aperitivo brand revealed that UK drinkers can be stubborn when it comes to socialising over the winter months, with one in three opting for al fresco no matter the temperature.
Drinking outside was considered to be a ‘small act of rebellion’ by 18% of those surveyed, while 17% said outdoor winter drinking is ‘more about pride than comfort’.
Additionally, the research showed that 19% of Brits prefer drinking outside as it feels ‘more social’ than being indoors.
As a solution, Aperol has created the ‘world’s first’ gloves made from orange peel, known as ‘spritzwear gloves’.
Made in Italy, the gloves contain a patented leather-alternative from Ohoskin, which combines regenerated materials with biopolymers from oranges –Aperol’s signature ingredient.
Designed with both sustainability and style in mind, the gloves feature a luxury silk lining and ‘grip texture’ that Aperol said is engineered to ensure the glass remains secure in hand.
The spritzwear gloves are available on Aperol’s website for £30 (US$39).
To support the launch, each pair comes with a £15 (US$19) ‘Spritz it Forward’ credit, which consumers can exchange for a Winter Spritz on the house at participating Young’s pubs and bars in the UK.
Aperol’s UK brand ambassador Loris Contro said: “Brits are famously optimistic when it comes to the weather, especially when there’s a chance of fresh air and a great drink involved. These gloves are our way of saying ‘if the sun’s down, don’t put the Spritz down’.”
Traditionally a summer serve, Aperol has attempt to turn its signature serve into a drink for winter occasions, too.
Earlier this week, the brand launched its Aperolidays campaign in collaboration with actor Nina Dobrev, which includes Aperol-branded Christmas jumpers and tree decorations.
