Turntable blend mixes modern single malts
By Miona MadsenIndependent whisky blender Turntable Spirits has released its seventh limited edition expression, inspired by Steppenwolf’s 1968 anthem Born to Be Wild.

The expression combines ‘new generation’ Scottish West Coast single malts with a small amount of grain whisky.
Born to Be Wild is Turntable’s 13th expression, joining core range blends Unplugged, Bittersweet Symphony, Smokin’ Riff, and Paradise Funk.
Track 7: Born to Be Wild is a blend consisting of 37% peated Ardnamurchan single malt aged in a Sherry butt, 16% Lochlea matured in a first-fill Bourbon barrel, and 15% Nc’nean from a first-fill Bourbon barrel. Additionally, it includes 18% Raasay peated aged in a Chinkapin oak barrel and 14% grain whisky from the closed Port Dundas Distillery, matured in a refill Bourbon barrel.
Offered non-chill filtered at 53% ABV, the peated and heavily Sherried expression displays coastal notes with bonfire marshmallows and peach-barley.
Gordon Stevenson, co-founder of Turntable Spirits, said: “Born to Be Wild captures the energy and spirit of some of our favourite modern distilleries, all of whom share our passion for changing
popular perceptions of whisky. From our perspective, it’s a privilege to be the first to feature these excellent malts and brands in a blended Scotch. Finding the perfect balance was a lot of fun.”
Track 7 is limited to 1,800 bottles and will be available in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and Japan, with a recommended retail price of £80 (US$107).
The launch event was held on 8 October at Glasgow’s Haberdashery, attended by representatives from all four single malt distilleries included in the blend.
At the upcoming The Spirits Business Awards 2025, Turntable is shortlisted for Whisky Brand of the Year, and blender Ally Stevenson has been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year.
Last month, the Scotch blender was among seven brands that joined the Spiribam portfolio in the French market.
