The Sommelier Selection series was created to showcase the flavours and influences of some of the world’s most renowned wine regions.

Previous releases in the series include Teeling Small Batch blended Irish whiskeys finished in French, Italian, and Portuguese wine casks.

The seventh edition in the series was matured in Rioja red wine casks from Northern Spain. The wine is known for its rich red and dark fruit flavours, which are said to complement Teeling’s whiskey style.

Offered at 46% ABV, the expression presents aromas of strawberry compote, cherry, cinnamon spice, and caramel, followed on the palate by dark berries, butterscotch, black pepper, and nutmeg.

Jack Teeling, founder and managing director, commented: “With our Sommelier Selection, we set out to push the boundaries of Irish whiskey by bringing the influence of world-class wine regions into our whiskey-making.

“Rioja is at the heart of Spanish winemaking, and we are delighted to showcase how its red wine casks can add a new dimension to our Small Batch, continuing our journey of discovery to what Irish and Teeling Whiskey can be.”

The Teeling Whiskey Sommelier Selection – Rioja Red Wine Cask Finish will be available at the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Dublin, Ireland, retailing for €55 (US$64).

The limited release can also be found in various international markets, including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, Australia, Singapore, and Japan.

In May, Teeling Whiskey Distillery hit the one million visitor milestone a decade after opening its doors in 2015.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, Teeling released a limited edition Birthday Batch expression.
