RNDC CEO Robert Hendrickson dies
By Rupert HohwielerIndustry veteran and interim CEO of Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) Robert ‘Bob’ Hendrickson has died.

RNDC confirmed Hendrickson died on Friday 17 October.
Hendrickson first joined RNDC in 1997 when the former Tarrant Company and the former Julius Schepps Company merged to form Republic Beverage Company.
He took over as acting CEO in March after Nick Mehal’s departure. Beforehand, Hendrickson had served as both chief operating officer (COO) and executive vice-president (EVP) for the distributor.
In a statement on LinkedIn, RNDC wrote: “It is with profound sadness that the RNDC family shares the passing of our interim CEO and president, Bob Hendrickson, on Friday 17 October.
“For more than 30 years, Bob helped shape RNDC’s success, culture, and partnerships.
“A true industry leader, his journey began with E&J Gallo Winery and Julius Schepps Company, and his leadership was pivotal in the creation of RNDC as we know it today.”
Marc Sachs will now step in as CEO and president on an interim basis, with Jay Johnson to work as his special advisor to support the transition.
Sachs has most recently worked as RNDC vice-president supplier business development since July 2014.
Johnson was formerly RNDC’s region president west, a position he retired from in 2023 after 32 years at RNDC.
“Bob played a vital role in the vetting process for RNDC’s next permanent CEO, and the board will continue that process with care and purpose,” RNDC added.
“Bob’s leadership, mentorship, and unwavering belief in people will continue to guide RNDC’s journey. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
WSWA: Hendrickson ‘titan of the industry’
Hendrickson was also on the board of directors at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA).
The WSWA paid tribute to Hendrickson in a statement: “Mr Hendrickson was a respected industry veteran, a valued member and long-time board member of WSWA, and a true embodiment of the spirit and excellence of our industry. His contributions, leadership, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him.”
Cutter Smith, president of Eder Bros and chairman of the WSWA, said: “He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. All of us who had the privilege of knowing Bob will remember him not only as a titan of the industry, but also as a trusted colleague and friend.
“Bob was a kind, generous man and an exceptional leader. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt support to the Hendrickson family and his RNDC family during this difficult time,” added WSWA president and CEO Francis Creighton.
