Pro surfing quintet launch Cinca Tequila

A group of five female Australian professional surfers, including eight-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, has launched a Tequila brand.

Named Cinca, the Tequila is made in Jalisco by the fourth-generation Camarena family. It is crafted with 100% Blue Weber agave, is naturally fermented, copper-distilled, and free from additives.

The brands production process follows a traditional method of using agave that has been aged for five to seven years, slow-cooked for 30 hours, fermented with native wild and cultivated yeast strains, and double-distilled in traditional copper pot stills using deep well water sourced from 232 metres beneath the Jalisco highlands.

Besides sharing a love of Tequila, the five founders and close friends are all professional surfers, with the crew comprising Gilmore, Nikki Van Dijk, Macy Callaghan, Dimity Stoyle and Laura Enever.

According to the group, the brand was crafted for ‘idle afternoons and lively after-hours’, from surf trips across the globe to late-night conversations.

They said: “We’ve created something that doesn’t compromise. Cinca is about connection, celebration, and the pursuit of excellence – values that drive us in surfing and in creating the perfect Tequila.”

Cinca’s debuting range consists of two Tequilas: Blanco and Coco.

Blanco offers notes of citrus, chamomile and spice, with a smooth peppery finish. It is recommended both neat and in cocktails.

The Coco variant has the Blanco’s base profile, but with a ‘subtle amount’ of coconut cream added. The group claims it to be a ‘category-first expression’, or the ‘first’ Tequila to be infused with real organic coconut rather than artificial flavouring.

“With innovative coconut-infused expressions and traditional production methods, Cinca is positioned to capture significant market share in Australia’s expanding premium Tequila segment,” the brand added.

The Blanco sits at 38% ABV and retails for AU$99 (US$65), while Coco has an ABV of 35% with a price tag of AU$89 (US$55).

Both are now available in Dan Murphy’s stores across Australia, and from 1 November in the on-trade at select Merivale venues. The brand will expand throughout November to additional retailers, bars and restaurants, with a full national rollout planned to conclude in December.

Cinca is distributed by Iconic Beverages.

The surfers aren’t the only professional Australian athletes to get into the Tequila sector recently. Cricketer Adam Gilchrist also launched his own brand earlier this month, called El Arquero.
