Muckle Brig taps two industry leaders to join board

Lind & Lime owner Muckle Brig has welcomed industry veterans Fraser Thornton and Johna Penman to its board of directors.

Fraser Thornton will be chairman, while Johna Penman is a non-executive director

Thornton previously served as chairman of Distell International, CEO at Scottish Golf, non-executive director at Campari UK, and chairman of Rangers Football Club. He will now head up Muckle Brig’s board as chairman.

Penman’s experience, meanwhile, covers a range of senior marketing positions across the Scotch industry, such as head of brands at Edrington-Beam Suntory UK and Ian MacLeod Distillers’ UK marketing director.

She was most recently global head of marketing at Bladnoch Distillery. She now joins Muckle Brig’s board as non-executive director.

Paddy Fletcher, co-CEO of Muckle Brig, said: “We’ve been fortunate to be given the space by our investor base to find the right appointments for the board. With Fraser and Johna, we’ve found exactly the range of expertise we require to seize the opportunities in front of us.”

Fletcher co-founded Edinburgh-based Muckle Brig with Ian Sterling in 2014. The company operates two distilleries in Scotland’s capital: The Port of Leith and Lind & Lime.

The company has also recently appointed a new UK distributor for Lind & Lime in Amber Beverage.

Stirling called the decision to have Amber Beverage take over Lind & Lime’s UK distribution a “key step-change in the company’s evolution”.

He said: “As a start-up player in this global industry, there comes a point where appointing a third-party to grow distribution in our home market is the right step to take. In ABUK, we have a partner with a fantastic track record in scaling brands, and a team that brings fantastic depth of experience and passion for our gin.”
