Kraken resurrects Dark Caramel rum

Proximo Spirits has made The Kraken Dark Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt a permanent part of the brand’s core range, following its debut as a limited edition release last year.

Due to popular demand, The Kraken Dark Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt is returning to shelves nationwide in the US and on Amazon this October, with a suggested retail price of US$27.

The expression will join its predecessors, Kraken Black Cherry and Madagascan Vanilla, as well as Kraken Roast Coffee, as part of the brand’s permanent offerings.

According to a 19th-century legend, smugglers arrived at the Port of Penzance with barrels of Caribbean rum and dark caramel from Arabia.

They hid their loot in a concealed cave, but when they returned at dawn, a mysterious and watchful presence confronted them, causing them to flee into the darkness. Over time, sea spray mixed with the caramel and rum. The story serves as an inspiration for the rum.

Offered at 40% ABV, Dark Caramel and Cornish Sea Salt can be enjoyed over ice or stirred into hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.

Earlier this year, Jose Cuervo maker Promixo Spirits reported a 2.8% sales increase during the second quarter of 2025.
