Jigger & Pony to open Japanese-inspired Pop City x Pony
By Lauren BowesCreated in collaboration with the House of Suntory, Pop City x Pony will fill the space left by Sugarhall in Singapore’s Cecil Street.

The Jigger & Pony Group is behind its eponymous bar in Singapore, as well as the city’s Gibson and Live Twice. It opened Cosmo Pony in Jakarta with The Union Group in 2024.
Earlier this year, the group closed its rum bar, Sugarhall, and American grill restaurant, Rosemead. Pop City x Pony will open in the space on 26 November.
Peter Sillings & Associates designed the venue. The interiors ‘blend Japanese artistry and urban energy’, inspired by the music, fashion, and subcultures that define modern Japan.
The name references City Pop, a Japanese music genre from the eighties that fused ‘Western influences with Japanese sensibility’. Pop City x Pony aims to translate that spirit for today’s Singapore.
“With Pop City, we wanted to create a space where people can express themselves freely while discovering the craftsmanship and traditions that shape Japanese bartending,” said Aki Eguchi, Jigger & Pony Group’s bar programme director.
“Japanese culture is often seen as uniform, but it’s actually filled with subcultures, influences, and creativity. This bar celebrates that energy – a place for guests to connect, explore, and experience the beauty of diversity through Japanese craft.”
The cocktail menu will be guided by the seasons, with 16 drinks divided into Pop (music) and City (style). Each drink is designed to ‘evolve sip by sip’, revealing new layers of taste and texture while remaining ‘approachable to every palate’.
Pop City will feature four spaces. Byōbu Bar has a folding screen back bar and antique mirrors, while Bar Mixtape is inspired by Tokyo’s Golden Gai bars, offering CDs and headphones.
Tasting Commons will offer tastings and storytelling by day, and DJs and artists by night.
The final space, After Hours Salon, offers ‘Japanese elegance with laidback comfort’ for nightcaps and conversation.
Bar manager Sylvia Chong said: “At Pop City, every cocktail tells a story. From the first sip to the last, each creation is made to spark emotion, whether it is nostalgia, excitement, or a sense of discovery. We want guests to leave with memories that linger, like a song that stays in your head long after the night ends.”
Jigger & Pony Group will also unveil a second concept in the space soon.
Pop City x Pony is the third Japanese-inspired bar to open in recent weeks, following Netsu in Dubai and Yume in Hong Kong.
