Glengoyne launches whisky in support of wetlands conservation
By Rupert HohwielerIan Macleod Distillers-owned Glengoyne Distillery has released a charity whisky to support conservation around its Highland wetlands.

The Highland distillery has a partnership with Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), a wetland restoration charity that looks after the UK’s natural habitats through programmes such as Blue Recovery Fund and the ‘Wetlands Can!’ campaign.
A total of £5,000 (US£6,574) from the whisky’s sales, called The Glengoyne Wetlands Single Cask Release, will be donated to the charity and its conservation work.
Katie Burns, Glengoyne global brand manager, said: “Our exclusive whisky partnership with the WWT has a natural synergy with Glengoyne, derived from Glen Guin, or ‘valley of the geese’, as the charity’s work supports the environment in which these geese, and other wildfowl, thrive.
“After a dozen years of successfully partnering with the charity, we are delighted to continue to support the WWT’s invaluable work. The ‘Wetlands Can!’ Campaign calls for the creation of 100,000 hectares of wetlands across the UK and we’re delighted to have dipped a toe in the water – pun intended – and helped towards achieving this admirable goal.”
The whisky was aged in refill Sherry butt No. 190257, which was filled on 8 June 2009.
Bottled at 61.1% ABV, its nose brings notes of citrus, kiwi, ripe fig, milk chocolate, while the palate is described as ‘typically Glengoyne in character’ with tangerine, peach, toffee, subtle spices, malt and sweet oak. The finish then features soft citrus, dried fruits, gently drying oak and cream Sherry.
There are 500 bottles available priced at £190 (US$250). It is available at the Glengoyne Distillery store, website and at selected WWT sites.

The label of The Glengoyne Wetlands Single Cask Release was designed by Welsh illustrator Elin Manon. Manon’s design incorporates the distillery with its surrounding wetlands and the geese from the Glengoye valley.
Glengoyne’s natural wastewater treatment system was developed with WWT in 2011, when it became the first Scottish distillery to adopt a wetlands facility for all of its liquid waste.
The system reduces the distillery’s waste by 25%, while creating an environment for local wildlife and plants to thrive in.
In 2021, Glengoyne released its inaugural Wetlands single cask whisky to mark 10 years since the creation of its wetlands.
In 2023, the distillery offered fans a free bottle of Glengoyne 15-year-old whisky and an invite to the distillery for an in-depth tour in exchange for one day of volunteering with the WWT.
This year the distillery has launched a single malt whisky finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak, and unveiled new looks for its 18- and 21-year-old expressions.
