Exports of Chilean pisco soared by nearly 120% in the UK last year, driven by new partnerships and broader distribution.

Chilean pisco is steadily establishing its presence in the UK spirits market, with new listings in both retail and hospitality sectors.

Preliminary ProChile data indicate that global exports of Chilean pisco increased by more than 30% in 2024, with the UK market experiencing a nearly 120% year-on-year surge, making it one of the fastest-growing destinations worldwide for the spirit.

The milestone follows a summer campaign organised by ProChile in collaboration with brands, including Aba and El Gobernador, along with their long-term distribution partners in the UK.

The campaign covered 67 Tesco and Booker stores, marking a milestone for Pisco Aba, which is now listed in the two retail and wholesale chains. The listings not only increase visibility but also help to establish Chilean pisco within mainstream UK distribution.

El Gobernador, on the other hand, has enhanced its presence in cocktail venues such as The Sun Tavern, Discount Suit Company, Parasol, Experimental Cocktail Group, Corrochio’s, and Cinco Cantina.

Previous milestones in the UK include the entry of Capel and Alto del Carmen through Toll House Spirits and the launch of the nation’s ‘first ready-to-drink Pisco Sour’ at Harrison’s Coffee in London.

Chile’s pisco industry is supported by a Denomination of Origin established in 1931, the oldest of its kind for a Latin American spirit. This designation encompasses the valleys of Copiapó, Huasco, Elqui, Limarí, and Choapa.

Chilean pisco has a rich heritage, along with its diverse grape varieties and expressions ranging from clear to aged piscos.

Currently, at least 30 Chilean producers export their products to more than 40 international markets.

This October, ProChile will host a pisco masterclass and cultural event at the newly opened Cupra Bar in Manchester.

In November, the trade agency will celebrate aged piscos with a premium tasting. Although widely available in Chile, aged pisco has yet to enter the UK market.

These new initiatives aim to enhance education, engage industry stakeholders, and promote the long-term growth of pisco.
