The distillery is located in Bethel in New York, US. It produces a range of spirits, including American whiskey and vodka.

On 25 September this year, the distillery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with the Bankruptcy Court Eastern District of New York.

According to filings, the distillery has fewer than 50 creditors. Alton Distillery has estimated assets between US$1 million and US$10m, and the same for estimated liabilities.

The company’s Instagram page states the tasting room at the distillery is currently closed.

Alton Distillery is one of New York’s oldest distilleries. It was founded in 2010.

The producer is the latest in a string of facilities that have filed for bankruptcy in recent months.

In April this year, American single malt Westward Whiskey filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure the business after facing ‘significant liquidity challenges’.

That same month, Montana Distillery in the US closed after more than a decade due to supply and equipment issues.

In May, Devils River Distillery, backed by Dave Bautista, also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

A couple of months later in July, Dented Brick Distillery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure the business.

Last month, The Spirits Business broke the news that Diageo would be temporarily pausing production at two of its American distilleries, Balcones, and the production site for George Dickel. It has also halted whisky-making at its Scottish distillery Teaninich.
