Dewar’s denies dumping whisky in river
By Lauren BowesBacardi-owned Dewar’s has rebutted claims that it accidentally flushed £200,000 (US$268,741) worth of whisky into the River Clyde.

The Sun broke the story yesterday (23 September), claiming an ‘insider’ had shared details of the mishap.
According to the newspaper, the Scotch whisky distiller and blender had launched an investigation into an incident at its headquarters in Glasgow’s London Road, which was alleged to have happened between 10pm on 16 September and 6am the next day.
The Spirits Business contacted Dewar’s for a comment, and was told that there is no truth to the allegations.
A spokesperson said: “As per our official notification to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) last week, no whisky was discharged into the River Clyde and there has been no safety or environmental impact as a result of a mechanical fault that occurred on Wednesday 17 September.
“We prioritise safety, and go above and beyond compliance requirements to protect the environment, working closely with SEPA and all relevant authorities.”
The Spirits Business has also contacted SEPA for further information. A spokesperson for SEPA said: “SEPA is investigating an incident and, as investigations are ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery celebrated the 25th anniversary of its visitor centre opening earlier this year.
