Peddlers appoints Rio Liu as COO
By Georgie CollinsGin producer Peddlers has named Rio Liu chief commercial officer (COO), as the brand seeks to expand its presence across Asia.

The Peddlers brand was founded in a garage in Shanghai in 2018 and is now China’s number one exported gin.
It is made with organic botanicals that are foraged from locations such as Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu for a distinctively ‘Eastern flavour’, and the Peddlers portfolio currently comprises Shanghai Gin, Barrel Aged Gin, and Salted Plum Gin.
Originally hailing from Beijing, Liu’s passion for Chinese craft spirits is said to be shown in his deep experience in the industry, which offers him a unique perspective and ability to navigate China’s particular landscape.
While Liu began his career selling craft beer, he has been part of Peddlers from a founding role, and since the company’s inception, he has showcased his commitment to showing China, and the world, that Chinese craft spirits are able to compete with the world’s best.
“I’m delighted to be entering a new chapter in the growth of Peddlers Gin as chief commercial officer,” he said. “As a passionate supporter of local spirits and products, I am proud to help lead our company through its next stage of growth.
“As Chinese consumers more and more adopt local products, the journey ahead for Peddlers is exciting.”
In his new role as COO, Liu will manage commercial outcomes across the company, including the brand’s various product lines.
The appointment is said to have come at an exciting time for Peddlers, with new product releases on the horizon, aimed to significantly expand Peddlers’ presence in Asia.
We recently spoke with Liu about creating Shanghai’s first craft gin, the appeal of Chinese flavours, and the vibrant bar scene in China.
