León Y Sol makes ‘world’s first’ non-alc ‘spirit’ from Tequila
Independent brand León Y Sol claims to be the first brand to ‘strip’ the alcohol from Tequila to create a non-alcoholic ‘spirit’.

Called Nequila, the zero-proof ‘spirit’ is made using high-quality agave and traditional distillation methods in Mexico. The liquid then undergoes a ‘proprietary’ alcohol-removal process that ‘keeps the body, bite, and beauty of Tequila fully intact’.
The ‘spirit’ is made without additives or artificial ingredients, and is called an ‘agave juice beverage’ on the bottle. A 750ml bottle retails for US$49.
Nequila is available for preorder, with early supporters getting VIP access to the official launch party. The first batch is said to be ‘extremely limited’.
“This is a line in the sand,” said Bobby Marhamat, CEO of León Y Sol. “Nequila is about rewriting the rules, about saying you don’t have to dull the moment to make it meaningful. You don’t have to compromise taste to live with intention.
“We created Nequila for the bold, the curious, the unapologetic. This is for anyone who’s ever wanted to drink differently without drinking less of life.”
Other non-alcoholic ‘Tequila’ alternatives include Lewis Hamilton-backed Almave. Its process differs from Nequila in that it is made with agave, but the fermentation process is skipped.
