Glencairn whisky glass turns 25
By Miona MadsenScottish glassmaker Glencairn Crystal is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its whisky-tasting glass this year.

Launched in 2000, the tulip-shaped Glencairn glass was designed to concentrate aromas and elevate the whisky drinking experience.
Raymond Davidson, the founder of Glencairn Crystal and the creator of the Glencairn Glass, said: “When I first sketched the idea for the Glencairn Glass all those years ago, I wanted to create a proper whisky glass, something that would bring out the best in the spirit that we hold so dear.”
Since its launch, this glass has become widely recognised as the preferred glass for whisky tasting. It sells more than 5 million units annually, with a total of 50 million glasses sold to date across more than 140 countries.
The glass earned the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2006 and the Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2012. In May this year, the company was recognised with the King’s Award for Enterprise for innovation.
Davidson added: “To see the Glencairn Glass embraced by whisky drinkers around the world over the past 25 years has been incredibly humbling and exciting. We would like to thank the
industry we love for all their support over the years, and invite them to raise a Glencairn Glass in celebration with us.”
To celebrate, Glencairn Crystal is organising a variety of activities and celebrations that focus on nostalgia, community spirit, and whisky appreciation.
The festivities will feature retro throwbacks and exclusive, limited edition releases available across Glencairn’s online store, Amazon platform, and social media channels.
Davidson founded Glencairn Crystal, located in East Kilbride, Scotland, more than 40 years ago. With his sons, Paul and Scott, now leading the company, it has evolved from a specialised glassware studio into a key player in the global whisky industry.
The company has collaborated with more than 600 distilleries worldwide.
