Dalmore celebrates year two of Portfolio Series

Whyte & Mackay has launched the second edition of The Dalmore Portfolio Series for global travel retail (GTR), curated in collaboration with the V&A Dundee design museum.

The Portfolio Series 2025 is a collection of three Highland single malts finished in Bordeaux wine casks

The annual series is a limited edition collection of whiskies finished in red wine casks, curated by The Dalmore’s master whisky makers.

Each year, the collection is visually interpreted by a selected creative in collaboration with V&A DundeeScotland’s design museum. Each artist uses distinct design techniques to create custom art for the packaging.

For the 2025 collection, The Dalmore partnered with graphic artist Gabriella Marcella, the founder and director of Risotto, a risograph print and design studio based in Scotland.

The first expression in the 2025 collection, Portfolio Series No 1, is finished in Bordeaux wine casks and bottled at 46.8% ABV. Limited to 3,595 bottles, the expression retails for £500 (US$635).

No 2, on the other hand, went through a secondary maturation in Châteauneuf-du-Pape casks. The edition is offered at 46% ABV and limited to 1,596 bottles, each retailing for £750 (US$953).

Completing the 2025 series, No 3 was finished in Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon casks. The single malt is offered at 49.7% ABV and limited to 1,014 bottles. It retails for £1,000 (US$1,270).

All three whiskies are presented without an age statement at natural colour and non-chill filtered.

The second iteration of the series will make its GTR debut on 1 September at Singapore Changi Airport, in an exclusive partnership with Lotte Duty Free. This one-month exclusive listing marks The Dalmore’s first-ever pop-up at the airport.

After the initial launch, the series will roll out to additional international hub airports starting in October.

Janice McIntosh, GTR marketing director of Whyte & Mackay, said: “We are proud to build on the success of the inaugural launch with The Portfolio Series 2025 and the limited edition release of this exceptional whisky collection, which is celebrated visually in the standout packaging created by the bold creative vision of Gabriella Marcella.

“Last year, through our pioneering airport art gallery concept, we really pushed the boundaries to introduce this special concept, which was exceptionally well received.

“We are excited to partner with Singapore Changi Airport and Lotte Duty Free to offer global travellers yet more distinctive and immersive moments of discovery from The Dalmore.”

The design

To translate the character of the whiskies into visual art, Marcella drew inspiration from elements like motion, process, and time. Additionally, she explored the distillery’s heritage, particularly the tartan of the Mackenzie clan, which is associated with the distillery’s founders.

Marcella explained: “My aim was to translate the smooth, flowing characteristics of these whiskies into visual elements – ones that evoke movement and tactility.

“My approach was to honour the Mackenzie tartan’s heritage while reimagining it in ways that felt contemporary and in alignment with The Dalmore’s innovative spirit.”

The result is a reinterpretation of the tartan that captures the tactile quality of risograph printing. In this process, each colour is layered separately using a drum filled with soy-based inks. This technique produces vibrant and tactile prints, characterised by their ‘perfectly imperfect’ alignments and handcrafted appearance.

Marcella added: “My designs were rooted in a deep appreciation for The Dalmore’s heritage, the whisky-making craft, and the unique attributes of The Dalmore itself. And just as whisky follows a carefully honed recipe, my designs began with strict parameters – thread count and tartan grids, etc – before I introduced elements of play and abstraction.”
