The Cuban rum brand secured a tender with the Finnish alcohol monopoly in March this year after partnering with Servaali for import and distribution in Finland.

Servaali is part of the Olvi Group, an international multi-beverage company with origins dating to 1878 in Iisalmi, Finland. The company has a diverse portfolio from beer and water to spirits. It operates in several countries, including Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, and Denmark.

Fredrik Gahmberg, category manager of spirits at Servaali, said: “It is fantastic to see a product that is hitting the right trends. Spiced rum, which is growing in popularity, has low sugar content, authenticity with the Cuban heritage and is spiced with coffee, which is loved by us Finns. Additionally, the packaging is outstanding, so Black Tears is really ticking all the boxes for success.”

In addition to being widely available at Alko monopoly stores, Black Tears is now available to Servaali’s on-trade customers.

Helena Zakmane, international commercial and marketing director of Island Rum Brands, commented: “Winning a major monopoly tender is always a milestone for a brand. But even more importantly, this paves the way for Black Tears Dry Spiced, our flagship product, to be available to the Finnish consumers not only via the Alko stores, but also at their favourite on-trade venues.”

Island Rum Brands will participate in the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) event from 29 September to 2 October in Cannes, France, at the JP-GTR stand K68 in the Green Village. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste several products, including the premium Cuban rums Black Tears and La Progresiva.

Earlier this year, Island Rum Company successfully closed a private investment round to drive global growth.
