Tormore Legacy series showcases the distillery’s style and quality in three vintages

The new Legacy limited series, consisting of single malts distilled in 2003, 2009 and 2012, marks the first vintage releases from Tormore Distillery under the ownership of London-based Elixir Distillers.

Each vintage in the collection features a selection of single cask whiskies, chosen by distillery manager Polly Logan and Elixir Distillers’ master blender, Oliver Chilton, to reflect the quality and style of Tormore spirit.

Logan said: “These Legacy single casks exhibit some of the wonderful Tormore spirit from before Elixir bought the distillery.

“They all showcase what we call the ‘Tormore DNA’: glorious fruits, particularly peaches and pears, and a full, rounded palate akin to a peach pie with buttery pastry.

“Each cask has been selected to allow us to share how excited we are about what Tormore has to offer.”

The 2003 vintage has been drawn from four first-fill Bourbon casks, bottled at a natural cask strength of between 44.9% and 48.4% ABV. On the nose, it offers aromas of lemon peel, buttery pastry, sweet vanilla oak and fresh meadow flowers, followed on the palate by notes of creamy lemon curd, vanilla custard, poached pears and sweet oak.

The limited release has a recommended retail price of £175 (US$237).

Drawn from six first-fill Bourbon casks, the 2009 vintage, on the other hand, ranges from 47.4% to 56% ABV. Displaying aromas of freshly baked biscuits, ripe peaches, citrus and fresh meadow hay, the whisky offers a palate of lemon tart, cracked black pepper, spice, and vanilla custard.

Tormore Legacy 2009 retails for £94.95 (US$129).

The last of the trio, the Legacy 2012 vintage, is crafted from six first- and second-fill Bourbon casks and bottled at a range of 52.1% to 60.8% ABV.

The release offers aromas of lemon barley sugar, coconut biscuits, thyme and sweet, charred oak, followed on the palate by notes of chargrilled lemons, poached pears, buttery pastry and vanilla fudge. It has an RRP of £74.95 (US$101).

The Tormore Legacy Series will be available globally from mid-July at selected specialist retailers, with each cask producing around 220 bottles.

Earlier this year, Elixir Distillers released the first official pre-release Tormore single malts under the Blueprint series, consisting of three 10-year-old whiskies.
