SMWS owner launches cask programme

The Artisanal Spirits Company (ASC) has created a luxury private cask programme called Artisan Casks.

SMWS membership grew to 40,300
Each cask has been matured for 20 years, with the opportunity for further maturation

Artisan Casks joins the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), J.G. Thomson and Single Cask Nation in ASC’s portfolio.

The group said only a ‘handful’ of casks will be released in the programme each year.

All casks in the programme are of a quality to allow for immediate bottling, are aged for at least 20 years and have the potential for further maturation in consultation with ASC’s whisky makers.

As well as their casks, owners will receive ‘privileged’ access to Scotch distilleries and exclusive bottlings, as well as invitations to private events.

The group’s private client director James Mackay will lead Artisan Casks. Mackay was formerly global private client director and head of rare and exceptional spirits for Diageo.

He said: “The Artisan Casks programme brings together everything that makes single malt Scotch whisky so special to me: the most authentic, time-honoured application of craft, with each cask the focus of years of technical artistry, patience and uncompromising attention to detail.

“With its pedigree, expertise and outstanding cask inventory, the ASC is uniquely placed to offer individuals access to this world. Becoming the owner of such a cask is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one that I can’t wait to share and celebrate with like-minded souls around the world.”

In its most recent financial results, the ASC reported stagnant full-year sales as revenue in China fell by a third.

The group recently launched an arm in Vietnam.
