Password-protected Daiquiris come to UK

Ron Santiago de Cuba rum has teamed up with nearly 100 bars across the UK for an extended celebration of Daiquiri Day on 19 July.

While Daiquiri Week will take place from 11-20 July, the celebrations will extend into September

Ron Santiago de Cuba will collaborate with a selection of world-leading bars across the UK to create unique takes on the classic Cuban cocktail from 11 to 20 July, which is better known as Daiquiri Week.

The three-ingredient cocktail – believed to have originated in Santiago de Cuba – is said to be considered the ‘ultimate test’ of a good bartender. While simple to master, the ‘timeless classic’ also invites creativity, with endless possibilities for playful twists, many of which will be demonstrated throughout the week-long celebration.

In addition to the ‘array of rum’ on offer, a host of Cuban-inspired festivities will be taking place across the UK. At Be At One venues, £5 (US$6.80) Daiquiris will be available when presenting the bartender with the password: ‘Un Daiquiri Por Favor’. These ‘secret’ Daiquiris will be available exclusively all day on Friday 18 and Sunday 20 July, and until 6pm on Saturday 19 July.

The celebrations will extend beyond Daiquiri Week at 34 Mayfair in London. Ron Santiago De Cuba will take over the venue’s terrace until 1 September, with Cuban jazz evenings scheduled every Thursday.

Meanwhile, in Notting Hill, basement tiki bar Trailer Happiness will host three evenings of Cuban rum tastings, including a flight of bespoke Ron Santiago de Cuba cocktails paired with Latin-Caribbean-inspired small dishes. Ron Santiago de Cuba’s brand ambassador Tommy Cole will guide these tastings on Tuesday 15, Monday 28 and Wednesday 30 July.

From 17 to 19 July at The Bloomsbury Club in London’s Fitzrovia, Ron Santiago de Cuba will host a celebration of rhythm, flavour and rum in a three-night fiesta.

Then, at central London’s Archive & Myth on 16, 24 and 31 July, Cole and bar owner Jack Sotti will host a trio of masterclasses. These will ‘journey to the soul of Cuba’ via a table-side tasting of Ron Santiago de Cuba rums, all complemented by a flight of bespoke cocktails.
