Farrer was re-elected to the board of directors and is a fifth-generation descendant of the company’s founder.

He said: “As the incoming chairman, I am honoured to help shape Brown‑Forman’s future by upholding our rich heritage with the highest standards of corporate governance, drawing on 155 years of leadership to continue building a company that endures across generations.

“Our strength has always been rooted in long-term thinking, and we are steadfast in stewarding a legacy founded on integrity, quality, and care – ensuring this business thrives for generations to come.”

Brown-Forman’s portfolio also includes the Woodford Reserve, Old Forester, Gin Mare, Glendronach and Fords Gin brands.

Lawson E Whiting, Brown-Forman’s president and chief executive officer, said: “We are pleased to welcome Marshall, a visionary thinker with excellent strategic acumen, to the role of chairman.

“The company extends its sincere gratitude to Campbell [P Brown] for his distinguished leadership and dedicated service.”

It has been a tricky year for Brown-Forman. In January, the company revealed it had reduced its 5,400-strong workforce by approximately 12% and would close its Louisville-based barrel-making operation in April. In June, Independent Stave Company bought the cooperage for US$13.66 million.

That same month, the Jack Daniel’s owner released its full-year financial results, which saw organic revenue rise by 1% despite a decline during its fourth quarter and struggling Tequila sales.
