Edrington signs with Southern Glazer’s in California

Scottish spirits firm Edrington will expand its distribution partnership with Southern Glazer’s from next month.

The Edrington portfolio includes single malt brand The Macallan

Southern Glazer’s will represent the entire Edrington portfolio in California from 1 August. The firm currently represents the Edrington portfolio in Nevada and Tennessee.

“Southern Glazer’s extensive reach, together with its reputation for effective distribution, makes it the natural fit for our ultra-premium portfolio in California,” said Edrington Americas regional managing director Jeremy Speirs. “We are excited about the opportunities extending our partnership will bring and ensuring our ability to continue to grow our footprint in this extremely important market.”

California is one of the single largest markets for spirits in the US. However, brands both large and small were left searching for distribution within it after Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) announced this past June that it would be withdrawing from the state.

The Spirits Business examined the fallout from RNDC’s decision to exit California, with distributors such as Southern expected to step in to fill the void. In February 2024, RNDC announced a national partnership with Edrington, making it the exclusive distribution partner in 40 markets across the US.

The Edrington portfolio includes The Macallan, Highland Park, Glenrothes, Brugal rum, and Wyoming Whiskey.

“It’s a privilege for us to represent The Macallan, an exceptional single malt, along with Edrington’s other leading ultra-premium brands, in the dynamic and influential California market,” said Wayne E Chaplin, president and CEO at Southern Glazer’s. “We are honoured that the Edrington team trusts us to drive growth for their world-class luxury spirits in the largest beverage alcohol market in the country.”

The two companies began working together in 2014.
