Chopin Imports taps Breakthru for California distribution

The new distribution partnership between Chopin Imports and Breakthru Beverage Group in California will begin next month.

The Chopin Imports portfolio features the brand’s namesake vodka and Botanika Angelica Liqueurs

Following a June decision by Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) to exit California in September, Chopin Imports has announced a new distribution partnership with Breakthru Beverage Group for the state.

The Chopin portfolio includes its namesake vodka, Botanika Angelica Liqueurs, Dorda Liqueurs, Kasama Rum, Ron Carupano Rum, Koch El Mezcal, Terralta Tequila, Ojo de Agua Tequila, and Cedar Ridge Distillery.

“There’s also a lot to be optimistic about as we embark on this new partnership with Breakthru; as a family-owned and operated company, it is always appealing to work with other privately held companies that share our understanding of the business,” Chopin CEO Tad Dorda said.

“The Chopin Imports portfolio is experiencing great growth, and with Breakthru’s recent investments and commitment to the spirits space, together we will bring our portfolio to a broader audience. We are confident this new partnership will drive growth while benefiting our customers and trade partners in California.”

News of the partnership comes a week after both Edrington and Rémy Cointreau announced new agreements with Southern Glazer’s for California distribution. The July issue of The Spirits Business examines the fallout from RNDC’s departure with additional shakeout likely still to come.

“Chopin’s wide-ranging portfolio of award-winning and craft spirits demonstrates their quality-first approach and an alignment to Breakthru’s commitment to ‘executional excellence,’” John Sladek, executive vice-president, California, at Breakthru, said.

“Our Breakthru California team has the operational capabilities, industry expertise, and a route-to-market strategy to deliver on Chopin’s high-quality standards and expansion plans. We’re looking forward to growing the California market together, sharing with more customers all that Chopin Imports has to offer.”

The agreement will take full effect on 1 September, with dual representation between RNDC and Breakthru Beverage commencing 1 August.

Meanwhile, Hawai‘i’s Kōloa Rum Company announced a partnership with Reyes Beverage Group for distribution in California while Lalo Tequila did the same back in June.
