Redbreast 15 ups the proof for anniversary edition

A special cask strength version of Redbreast 15 Year Old will be released in honour of the expression’s 20th anniversary.

The expression comes from just 15 casks

Redbreast 15 Year Old was first introduced in 2005 as a one-off bottling. To celebrate 20 years of the whiskey, the brand is releasing a limited edition cask strength version. The new expression was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and oloroso Sherry-seasoned casks and is bottled at 56.3% ABV.

“This release is a celebration of everything Redbreast 15 Year Old represents – heritage, craftsmanship, and character,” said master blender Dave McCabe. “Bottling it at natural cask strength allows the whiskey to fully showcase its complexity and vibrancy. Selecting 15 casks for this expression was a meaningful choice, connecting the whiskey’s age to its creation story.”

The whiskey shows bright and crisp citrus notes, herbal undertones, and a lively spice character alongside dried fruits and toasted oak. It will be available from 12pm on 11 June exclusively through the Midleton Distillery Collection for €130 (US$148).

Master blender emeritus Billy Leighton added: “When Redbreast 15 was first created, it was intended to be a one-time release. Its overwhelming success led it to become a permanent part of our portfolio. This cask strength edition captures the spirit of that original moment, delivering a whiskey that is both deeply familiar and thrillingly new. It’s a bold tribute to our fans and a reminder that every batch, like every Redbreast, has its own unique personality.”

Last year, Redbreast added an 18-year-old aged in four types of casks to its permanent range.

In March, Irish Distillers halted production at Midleton Distillery in County Cork, where Redbreast is produced. This coincided with a similar move from Diageo, prompting us to investigate the growing prevalence of whisky production pauses.
