TLDC unveils first whisky after resurrection
Gleann Mòr Spirits has released the first new single malt from The London Distillery Company (TLDC) since its acquisition in 2023.

TLDC was founded in 2011 in London’s Battersea as the capital’s first new whisky distillery since Lea Valley Distillery closed in 1903.
The company entered administration in 2020 and was subsequently acquired by Gleann Mòr Spirits in 2023. Matt McKay was brought in as managing director and whisky maker to lead the revitalisation of TLDC in January 2025.
The once-lost distillery has now released its first London single malt, Renascence – The Revival Release. Renascence was crafted from the remaining TLDC casks produced by the distillery during its operation from 2011 to 2020.
The new London single malt is made using Plumage Archer, a heritage variety of barley commonly used in whisky production in the early 20th century, and aged in a combination of refill barrels and first-fill Sherry casks.
The release is said to stay true to the original spirit style created by the company before its closure, displaying aromas of hedgerow berries, orange oils, fruitcake, spiced molasses, and fine pastries on the nose. The palate offers notes of stewed red and black berries, giving way to earthiness and toasted oak, dark chocolate, cashew nuts, roasted barley, and floral notes of rosehips and Turkish delight.
McKay said: “The London Distillery Company was ahead of its time – championing heritage, small-batch production long before the wider market was ready to embrace those values.
“Today, that vision aligns perfectly with the evolving tastes of modern drinkers. Renascence represents not just a new bottling from the company, but a rekindling of the distillery’s original, creative vision.
“It’s a privilege to carry that legacy forward and to shape the next chapter of TLDC. While we currently operate as a distillery without walls, our ambition is clear: to return to our roots in distilling and re-establish ourselves as a creative force in English whisky.”
Offered at 58% ABV, the release is limited to 410 bottles.
Renascence will be available exclusively from Berry Bros & Rudd from 6 June with an RRP of £89 (US$120).
Rob Whitehead, spirits buyer for Berry Bros & Rudd, commented: “Since hearing that there were still delicious casks of single malt London whisky from The London Distillery Company sleeping peacefully under the stewardship of Matt McKay and the team at Gleann Mòr Spirits, I was keen to work together to share them with our family, friends and customers.
“As spirits buyer for Berry Bros & Rudd, it’s a true honour to work as the trusted bridge between those who make the best drinks and those who drink them. What could be more fitting than London’s oldest spirit and wine merchant exploring London’s oldest stocks of whisky?”
