Diageo India and WSET launch initiative for women
By Miona MadsenThe Indian arm of Diageo has partnered with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) to launch exclusive Level 1 Spirits training sessions for women bartenders and junior professionals nationwide.

The new initiative, powered by Diageo Bar Academy, is said to highlight Diageo India’s commitment to promoting gender diversity, skill development, and leadership opportunities within the bar and beverage industry.
In its first phase, the program will certify more than 80 women, providing them with globally recognised credentials in spirits.
The sessions are curated as part of Our Hive, Diageo India’s platform to empower women in hospitality. The platform aims to elevate technical knowledge and drive long-term career progression through mentorship, education, and building an inclusive community.
Anchal Kaushal, vice-president of customer marketing at Diageo India, said: “This collaboration reflects our long-standing commitment to inclusion, capability-building, and progress.
“With WSET’s world-class certification and the Diageo Bar Academy’s legacy of training excellence, we’re not just upskilling – we’re opening doors to leadership, confidence, and opportunity. This is how we build a workforce that reflects the diversity and dynamism our industry needs.”
The scholarship program is free for all candidates, specifically women aged 21 years and above. Candidates are selected based on eligibility and the discretion of the judges.
The program’s launch is part of Diageo’s investment in building a more inclusive, skilled, and progressive future for the bar industry in India.
Earlier this year, Diageo’s Indian subsidiary, United Spirits, announced the closure of its 160-year-old manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, Telangana, due to ‘evolving market dynamics and ageing infrastructure’.
