Cotswolds ages whisky in Calvados casks

English distillery Cotswolds has unveiled the sixth edition in its Hearts and Crafts series, which has been aged exclusively in ex-Calvados casks.

Cotswolds Hearts and Crafts Calvados Single Malt
Only 1,500 bottles of the new release are available

The new release is part of Cotswolds Distillery’s annual Hearts and Crafts series, which celebrates the arts and crafts movement.

Launched in 2020, previous casks used in the collection include the inaugural expression in Sauternes wine barriques; Pineau des Charentes barriques in 2021; rum-seasoned ex-red wine casks in 2022, Banyuls-seasoned casks in 2023; and Pineau des Charentes casks in 2024.

For the 2025 limited release, the English distillery has matured its single malt in French Calvados apple brandy casks.

The whisky displays aromas of poached pear, baked pastry, and apple tart on the nose, with notes of stewed apple, sticky toffee pudding, vanilla custard, golden sultanas, and cinnamon on the palate.

This sixth expression is offered at 55% ABV and limited to 1,500 bottles.

The artwork of William Morris, an artist, poet, and writer renowned for his textile designs, inspired the tin design.

Regarded as one of the leaders of the arts and crafts movement in the late 1800s, Morris spent his summers at his Cotswolds home, Kelmscott Manor.

The Calvados cask-aged single malt retails for £100 (US$133). It is available at the distillery, its online shop, and two satellite stores in Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water.

In April, Cotswolds Distillery joined The English Whisky Guild’s inaugural celebration of English Whisky Week.

Cotswolds Distillery extended its partnership with Highgrove Estate in April by creating a single cask malt whisky to honour King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s 20th wedding anniversary.
