Talisker release backs ocean conservation projects
By Miona MadsenDiageo-owned Talisker has unveiled The Wild Blue, a limited edition single malt whisky that aims to support coastal habitat restoration.

For the limited release, the Isle of Skye-based distillery partnered with the Blue Marine Foundation, a UK ocean conservation charity.
In a distillery first, the whisky was finished for 16 months in select red wine casks from South Africa’s coastal regions.
Meanwhile its secondary maturation was inspired by the distillery’s rugged coastal home on the Isle of Skye and its ‘profound’ connection with the ocean.
Offered at 48.2% ABV and described as ‘a particularly smoky expression of Talisker’, The Wild Blue displays aromas of pepper, maritime notes of drying seaweed and sea spray, and sun-dried cranberries. The palate offers additional notes of berries, orchard fruits, salt, peat smoke, and sweetness.
Each promotional bottle made for worldwide distribution provides a £3 donation to Blue Marine. The total donation will amount to £112,608 (US$150,600), regardless of the number of bottles sold.
The donation will support projects that aim to enhance water quality and restore essential coastal habitats, including reviving biodiversity by restoring native oyster beds and seagrass meadows in the Solent region of southern England.
Clare Brook, CEO of Blue Marine Foundation, said: “We are delighted to partner with Talisker in our mission to protect and restore life in the ocean.
“Talisker’s generous contribution will help us restore oysters in the Solent; these keystone species improve water quality and support biodiversity off the south coast. We are so grateful to Talisker for their vision in supporting our work.”
Presented in a 100% recycled glass bottle and carton-free packaging, Talisker The Wild Blue is now available in select markets with a suggested retail price of £82 (US$110).
To celebrate the launch, Talisker will host The Wild Blue Challenge on Friday 6 June, ahead of World Ocean Day on 8 June.
Celebrities and swimming enthusiasts are invited to participate in an ocean swim against the clock. For every kilometre swum, Talisker will donate an additional £150 (US$200) to Blue Marine.
Last October, Diageo announced plans to demolish the old Talisker Distillery in order to build a new modern facility with sustainable technologies.
