Boann Irish whiskey makes US debut
By Lauren BowesIrish distillery Boann has launched its core range of three single pot still whiskeys in 10 US states.

Boann Distillery is based in the town of Drogheda in County Meath, in the east of the Republic of Ireland. The distillery also creates the Silks Irish Dry Gin and The Whistler Irish Whiskey brands.
When Boann created its first single pot still expression, it was the first time whiskey had been distilled in Drogheda in 160 years.
There were once 18 distilleries in Drogheda, with the last of these silencing its stills in the late 1850s.
Boann’s whiskeys will now be available in California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Dakota, New York, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.
The three whiskeys in the core range are each bottled at 47% ABV and will retail for US$69 per 700ml bottle. Each is finished in a different fortified wine cask: Marsala, Madeira and Pedro Ximénez (PX).
The Marsala Cask Finish is initially matured for three years in heavily charred ex-Bourbon barrels sourced from Brown-Forman distilleries in Kentucky, followed by a final maturation in French oak and Marsala casks from Cantine Vinci in Sicily.

The Madeira Cask Finish is also first aged in charred ex-Bourbon barrels, followed by a period in vintage Madeira casks sourced from Justino’s.
The Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish is matured for three and a half years in oloroso Sherry hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey in Spain, before being finished in vintage PX solera chestnut and oak casks from Malaga.
Boann’s managing director and founder, Pat Cooney, said: “This is the beginning of a journey to bring Irish whiskey back to its rightful place as a global leader. Single pot still Irish whiskey is uniquely Irish, and we’re reviving the heritage of Ireland’s lost distilleries while uniting traditional methods with modern innovation.
“This has always been our dream: to distil our own Irish whiskey in the heart of the Boyne Valley. These whiskeys carry the character and provenance of the land, writing a new chapter in the story of single pot still Irish whiskey.”
