Surfside is fastest-growing alcohol brand in US retail
By Nicola CarruthersVodka-based hard tea Surfside was the fastest-growing alcohol brand in the US off-trade last year after it soared by triple digits.

The US-based parent company of Surfside, Stateside Brands, reported 362% value growth in scanned retail across the US. The company cited figures from Nielsen IQ for the year ending 28 December 2024, covering wine, spirits and beer brands that sold a minimum of 100,000 cases in 2023.
Launched in 2022, Surfside is a ready-to-drink (RTD) brand made with vodka, real tea and lemonade, packaged in 355ml cans. It was founded by Philadelphia natives and brothers Matt and Bryan Quigley, and siblings Clement and Zach Pappas, who collectively launched Stateside Brands in 2016.
The company debuted Stateside Vodka in 2016, which is made from 100% US-grown corn and is distilled seven times.
Surfside sold 1.3 million cases in 2023, and skyrocketed by 378% to 4.9m cases in 2024.
“Our team is thrilled by the overwhelming response across the country as our team worked tirelessly to keep up with exploding demand. Becoming the fastest-growing brand within beverage alcohol is an incredible achievement for Surfside,” said Clement Pappas, Stateside Brands CEO.
He attributed the brand’s growth to the launch of new lemonade and vodka flavours during the summer.
Surfside is planning to release a vodka-based green tea range in the first quarter of 2025 in four expressions: Green Tea (eight-pack), Mango Green Tea (four-pack), Peach Green Tea (four-pack), and Half & Half Green Tea (four-pack). Each can contains 100 calories and has an ABV of 4.5%.
The company has also unveiled a new 700ml canned format, called The Longboard, which is aimed at stadiums and convenience stores.
Five expressions will be available in the 700ml size including Iced Tea and Vodka, Half & Half and Vodka, Green Tea and Vodka, Lemonade and Vodka, and Strawberry Lemonade.
‘Continued robust growth’
Clement Pappas added: “We expect continued robust growth momentum in 2025 with our new green tea line variety pack launching and Surfside products hitting the shelves of major chain stores throughout the US.”
Surfside has also announced several partnerships including becoming the official RTD vodka iced tea and vodka lemonade of Minor League Baseball (MLB).
The brand said it had become the number one-selling spirits brand at the home of Pennsylvanian baseball team Philadelphia Phillies, Citizens Bank Park, in 2023.
In 2024, Surfside’s professional sports partnerships grew to a total of 11 teams across MLB, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association. The brand plans to double its presence this year.
Surfside was named by The Spirits Business as one of the RTD brands to watch in 2025.
Hard tea is expected to rise by 18% in the US by 2028, according to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis.
