Laws Whiskey House unveils Sanctuary tasting room

The new space from Laws Whiskey House delivers custom cocktails and panoramic views of the nearby Rocky Mountains.

The Laws Whiskey Sanctuary will offer neat pours and cocktails within a lush lounge space

Denver-based Laws Whiskey House has opened the doors to its Whisky Sanctuary, a 4,000-square-foot tasting room that includes a full bar, a cocktail lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, and a custom cocktail programme. The new space first opened on 21 December.

“Just as Laws adds to the fabric of American whiskey, our new tasting room contributes to the fabric of Denver’s whiskey scene,” founder and president Al Laws said. “Like it says on our bottles, there are no shortcuts. Seven years later, we’ve proven that commitment. Our new tasting room offers an exceptional experience as bold and impactful as the spirits we craft.”

The new space was designed in a bold, brutalist style by Boss.architecture. The design highlights raw building materials and structural elements interwoven with aesthetic features like a spiral staircase and vaulted ceilings.

Materials such as steel, glass, stone and exposed concrete contribute to a rugged and utilitarian exterior, softened by rounded furnishings, wood accents, brass, and neutral tones in the interior. The focal points are the tall Gothic glass windows, and pews hand-carved by Laws himself.

“When I started Laws almost 15 years ago, this was always the goal – to create a fully immersive experience that connects people to the whiskey,” Laws said. “Whiskey is meant to be shared with the people you care about, not something you drink alone in the dark. This village we’re building is all about bringing whiskey lovers together to enjoy great spirits with great company.”

In the cocktail lounge, guests can enjoy custom cocktails featuring the brand’s terroir-driven whiskey while taking in the mountain scenery. The beverage programme includes whiskey flights, single pours, as well as cocktails like the Orange Whiskey Creamisicle (US$12) and the Peach Basil Whiskey Smash (US$14). The expanded space also includes an enhanced retail area.

Laws Whiskey House’s Whiskey Sanctuary is located at 80 W Arkansas Ave, in Denver, Colorado and is open from 3pm-10pm on Tuesdays, 2pm-10pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1pm-11pm on Fridays, noon to 11pm on Saturdays, and noon to 9pm on Sundays.

Laws is one of a handful of producers that makes up the distilling scene in Colorado. In addition to Stranahan’s, which is owned by Proximo Spirits, the state is home to Distillery 291, Old Elk, Breckenridge, The Family Jones, Talnua, Woody Creek, and more.
