Devil’s Botany opens absinthe tasting room

London’s ‘first’ absinthe distillery, Devil’s Botany, will add a tasting room to its Leyton site in February.

Co-founder Allison Crawbuck said: “It has always been our plan to open a bar on-site at the distillery in Leyton, so we’re excited that the time has finally come to open our doors.

“In November 2020, Devil’s Botany launched as the UK’s first dedicated absinthe distillery and now the Tasting Room provides a place for curious guests to visit us, discover what absinthe is, how it is distilled and explore the many ways it can be enjoyed.

“Absinthe remains a spirit of mystery, but its revival is in full swing and people are keen to learn more about the notorious spirit. By inviting guests to the distillery, we’re able to bring the spirit to life – a place where we can dispel the myths and celebrate the legends that surround absinthe.

“Rhys and I opened Devil’s Botany with a background in mixology, so we’re excited to be able to showcase absinthe’s versatility when used in cocktails. The Tasting Room will also provide a space to connect with our local community.”

The tasting room will be open on Saturdays between 2pm-9pm from 1 February. It will have 20 covers and offer a rotating cocktail menu that showcases ‘absinthe’s versatility’.

Serves will include the Deathspresso Martini, which blends the brand’s Chocolate Absinthe, Mr Black whiskey liqueur, coffee and simple syrup, and the Corpse Reviver E10, which combines the brand’s London Dry Gin and London Absinthe, as well as Dolin Blanc, Burnt Faith Triple Sec and lemon.

As well as the tasting room, the distillery will also offer weekly tours on Saturdays. Guests can buy a ticket for a tour and tasting experience for £25 (US$31) per person.

In 2023, Devil’s Botany released a ‘rebellious’ new style of absinthe – London Absinthe, which was made with the same regulations that define a London Dry gin and doesn’t become cloudy.
