Whisky 1901 raises £7,000 for charity
By Miona MadsenA cask of nine-year-old Tomatin donated by cask investment company Whisky 1901 was sold at a charity auction for £7,000 (US$8,805).

The event was hosted by Leuchie, a Scottish respite charity supporting individuals and families living with a neurological condition such as multiple sclerosis (MS), motor neurone disease (MND) and Parkinson’s.
The auction featured more than 75 lots, including a child mascot experience donated by the Scottish Football Association, overnight stays at Edinburgh hotels Prestonfield and The Fife Arms, the use of an Aston Martin for the weekend, and a corporate box at St James Park for Newcastle vs Manchester United.
The London-based Whisky 1901’s donation of a Scotch whisky cask from the Tomatin Distillery raised the most money for a single lot.
Distilled on 6 May 2015, the cask has an ABV of 60.1% and an estimated yield of approximately 281 bottles.
The whisky cask is currently maturing in a bonded warehouse in Scotland.
‘Significant impact’
Commenting on the fundraiser, Lana Bambridge, director of income and communications at Leuchie, said: “We are very grateful to Whisky 1901 for donating a whisky cask which sold for a whopping £7,000 (US$8,805), with two supporters splitting the bid.
“The money will help Leuchie provide vital respite services and aim to double our impact by 2026. Overall, the event raised £172,600 (US$21,7103), and we still can’t quite believe it. Such a huge amount of funding will have a significant impact on the families supported by Leuchie.”
Leuchie provides a range of settings that suit the health needs and circumstances of the individual living with a neurological condition and their family. These include short breaks with 24-hour nursing and care, therapies, social activities and outings at Leuchie, accessible self-catering accommodation for all the family or regular at-home support.
The charity has hosted the annual fundraising event since 2022.
Whisky 1901 contributed to the auction for a second year. Last year, the company donated two lots – a Kirkcowan cask from the Bladnoch Distillery and a bottle of Dalmore 2007 vintage. The lots raised £4,600 (US$5,786) and £260 (US$327), respectively, contributing to the overall sum of £130,000 (US$163,519).
Aaron Damiano Sparkes, founder and CEO of Whisky 1901, stated: “We’re delighted to contribute to the success of this fundraising event for the second year running, raising vital funds for Leuchie, who provide a wonderful service to those facing long-term physical conditions and their families.
“At Whisky 1901, we’re committed to making meaningful contributions to good causes – this year alone, we’ve donated £15,500 (US$19,297) to various charities.”
