Tesla brings back limited edition mezcal

Independent agave spirits brand Nosotros has partnered with technology company Tesla to re-launch a limited edition mezcal.

The limited edition Tesla Mezcal is now available for US deliveries

Fulfilled by e-commerce spirits platform Flaviar, the artisanal joven mezcal will be available in limited quantities, exclusively from Tesla’s website.

The spirit is presented in a hand-blown lightning-strike-shaped glass bottle with a black finish, inspired by Oaxaca’s centuries-old Barro Negro pottery-making tradition.

The bottle was designed by Tesla’s director of product design Javier Verdura in honour of his Mexican roots and early life in Mexico City.

Carlos Soto, founder of Nosotros, commented: “Working with Javier and the Tesla team on this project has been an incredible experience. Tesla Mezcal is more than a beverage; it’s a piece of art and a testament to shared values of sustainability.”

Tesla Mezcal is made with Espadìn and Bicuishe agave and displays floral and spicy aromas with lime, green apple and smoke, followed by tuberose, jasmine and chamomile on the palate.

Offered at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle, the limited release was launched for US deliveries on the tech company’s website on 12 December for US$450.

Josh Jacobs, senior vice president of strategic partnerships at Flaviar, said: “At Flaviar, we’re inspired by the ecosystem Tesla has created through its ground-breaking innovations and are proud to be the trusted technology and fulfilment partner for Tesla Mezcal, delivering a customer experience that matches the exceptional quality of the product.

“As with Tesla Tequila and beer, we have seen the first batch of Tesla Mezcal fly off the shelves in June, and we are positive this holiday restock will be no exception. The project would not be possible without Nosotros, and it has been an absolute pleasure partnering with them over the past five years and watching their brand take off.”

Elon Musk-owned Tesla launched its first agave spirit, Tequila, in 2020 for US$250.

Earlier this year, Flaviar acquired US fulfilment service Speakeasy Co as part of its plans to become a multi-billion-dollar global alcohol player.

Last month, president-elect Donald Trump announced his plans to issue a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada imports, a move that could cost the US a total of US$5 billion and 100,000 jobs, and impact the Tequila and mezcal industry.
