Tarquin’s launches non-alcoholic ‘spirit’
English producer Southwestern Distillery has entered the alcohol-free category with Tarquin’s Cornish Dry Non-Alcoholic Spirit.
Developed by founder and master distiller Tarquin Leadbetter, the non-alcoholic variant was created to capture the same classic juniper, citrus and floral notes of the distillery’s Cornish Dry Gin.
Crafted for versatility, Tarquin’s Cornish Dry Non-Alcoholic Spirit was designed to replace traditional dry gin in alcohol-free drinks and cocktails with lower-alcohol content.
Leadbetter commented on the new launch: “It’s always exciting to enter a new category, especially one growing as quickly as low-and-no ‘spirits’. In fact, in the UK, nearly one-in-three pub visits are now alcohol-free.
“More importantly, 47% of UK adults are now switching between alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks on the same occasion (Kantar data) – a behaviour known as ‘zebra-striping’. This powerful insight shows that as the UK’s best-selling super-premium gin brand nationwide, our existing drinkers want to seamlessly switch between their favourite Tarquin’s gins at full-strength and 0% ABV.”
Leadbetter said it took three years and “hundreds of taste tests” to create the final product.
The ‘spirit’ was distilled with dry gin and Cornish coastal botanicals, including local sea salt, gorse flowers, sea buckthorn and violets.
He continued: “We believe this is the only way to mirror the elegance and complexity of our classic Cornish Dry Gin with all the same crisp pine, orange blossom and bright floral notes.”
Tarquin’s Non-Alcoholic Spirit is plant-based and free from added sugars, artificial colourings, and flavourings.
At less than 0.5% ABV, it has approximately the same alcohol content as a ripe banana and contains just 27 calories per serve.
With a suggested retail price of £25 (US$32), the non-alcoholic ‘spirit’ is now available through the brand’s website and gin shops, as well as in select restaurants, pubs and independent retailers.
Earlier this year, Tarquin’s unveiled its fourth annual Thirsty Thursday series of weekly limited edition releases and created Wonderful World Gin exclusively for London Gatwick Airport.
