London’s Groucho Club to reopen
By Lauren BowesWestminster City Council has reinstated the licence of The Groucho Club private members’ club in Soho.

The licence was suspended on Tuesday 26 November following a request from the Metropolitan Police, with the council revealing the venue has been “associated with serious crime”.
It is believed The Groucho Club will reopen on 10 January.
A council spokesperson said: “Having considered all the evidence presented by Groucho’s management and the Metropolitan Police, the council’s licensing sub-committee has agreed to modify the conditions on the licence and lift the suspension of the club’s licence with immediate effect.
“The committee was satisfied that Groucho’s management had demonstrated significant safety improvements and agreed that sufficient measures are now in place for the venue to operate safely.
“This decision means that the club will be allowed to reopen.”
It has been reported that a man was arrested on suspicion of rape at the venue.
The Groucho Club was founded in 1985 and features three bars, two restaurants, four event rooms and 17 bedrooms. Its name is a reference to Groucho Marx, who once said he did not want to be a member of any club that would have him.
