Polar Peppermint liqueur launches in UK

Inspired by Berlin’s nightlife and the taste of mint schnapps, Polar Peppermint Ice Liqueur has made its debut in the UK.

Created by Penny Bell, the new liqueur is made in partnership with an independent distillery in Towcester, England.

Polar is made from sugarcane spirit and sugar syrup and flavoured with natural peppermint and menthol.

Bell commented: “I wanted a drink that balanced freshness and flavour so it was a joy to drink – without making it too sweet. Polar does just that. I am looking forward to people tasting it.”

The liqueur has already been stocked by independent retailers, but the brand is now seeking a trusted distribution partner to expand its on-trade presence.

Select industry professionals have been invited to a bumper launch party on 21 November, where Polar will be used as the base for three different cocktails and served neat. The event, which features music by DJ Kilig, is hosted at the recording studio Tileyard in north London’s Camden Town.

Drinks consultant and buyer Ben Franks, managing director of Ben Franks Wine, commented: “There’s a sea of green-coloured, overly herbal or synthetic tasting mint liqueurs on the market. Polar offers something different. A pure expression of peppermint with a long, fresh menthol note that is going to make an impact in any cocktail or as an ice-cold shot.”

Polar has a 20% ABV and retails for £32 (US$41) in a 700ml bottle.

At The Liqueur & Speciality Spirits Masters 2024, Polar was awarded a Silver medal and described by the judges as a “good mint liqueur” with an aroma of “fresh mint, like Polos” and “freshness and mintiness” on the palate.
