The US distribution arm of Maguey Spirits has purchased Bozal Mezcal and Pasote Tequila from 3 Badge Beverage Corporation, returning both brands to Mexican ownership.

Maguey Spirits is run by brothers Alejandro and Christian Rossbach, who say the company is dedicated to ‘preserving and elevating Mexico’s rich heritage of artisanal spirits’.

Maguey Imports is the firm’s US distribution arm, which collaborates directly with local producers across Mexico’s agave-producing regions to create spirits that ‘reflect the story of the land, the people, and the craft’.

This acquisition is said to further Maguey Imports’ mission to preserve and elevate Mexico’s agave spirits heritage while bringing the exceptional craftsmanship of Bozal Mezcal and Pasote Tequila closer to their authentic origins.

“While it’s common for large corporations to acquire small, independent producers, this transaction flips the script,” said Maguey Spirits co-owner Alejandro Rossbach. “A small producer has reclaimed the brands they’ve lovingly crafted, ensuring the legacy of these spirits remains deeply rooted in Mexico. Bozal and Pasote are now proudly Mexican-owned, fully integrated, and ready to reach consumers with the same passion and quality, but with a deeper connection to their origins.”

Bozal Mezcal boasts a commitment to traditional production methods, as well as a variety of curated wild and cultivated agave. Its liquid is presented in ‘distinct’ ceramic packaging.

Meanwhile, Pasote Tequila, crafted in the highlands of Jalisco, has earned a reputation for its ‘pure, vibrant flavour’ and dedication to traditional Tequila-making techniques.

The values of both brands are said to ‘align perfectly’ with Maguey Imports’ mission of ‘honouring heritage while embracing innovation’.

The brands’ former owner, 3 Badge Beverage Corporation, is based in Sonoma, California. Its portfolio includes Uncle Val’s Gin and Kirk & Sweeney Rum.

Alejandro added: “We hold great respect for the remarkable foundation 3 Badge has established with Bozal and Pasote. Their unwavering dedication to quality and craftsmanship deeply aligns with our mission. We’re eager to continue building on this legacy by strengthening the connection between these iconic brands and their authentic Mexican heritage.”

Earlier this month, London’s Hacha bar held a competition to find Britain’s best mezcal and Tequila cocktails.
