Benromach debuts workwear jacket
Speyside’s Benromach has reimagined the jacket historically worn by distillery workers to create a limited edition garment.
The jacket is a result of a partnership between the Benromach distillery team and Reworked 348, a studio based in Derby, England, that uses recycled materials and handmade techniques.
The ‘chore’ jacket has been worn by distillery workers for centuries, but recent styles have become fashionable in men’s contemporary workwear.
The Benromach jacket is created using reconstructed workwear originally made in the 1990s, featuring 100% cotton herringbone in black with accents of the brand’s signature red.
For functionality in the distillery and beyond, it offers two diagonal pockets for quick access and an inner pocket for tools. For safety in the workplace, cuffs can be buttoned and rolled up, while front buttons have been concealed.
Murdo Mackenzie, production manager at Benromach, said: “Reworked 348’s approach aligns perfectly with ours in terms of using traditional handmade skills to create something special. It was great for them to come up and see us at work in Speyside, and then for me to visit their studio to create a product of great quality and character – just like our whisky.”
Each jacket is handmade to order and can be purchased for £130 (US$168) from Reworked 348’s website. A small number will be available from the distillery’s visitor centre, in Forres, Speyside.
Earlier this year, Benromach launched a limited edition 50-year-old single malt, which retailed for £20,000 (US$26,100).
For those on the lookout for more stylish spirits merch, Jameson recently created a retro-inspired co-ord tracksuit with football brand Admiral, while Renais gin partnered with Italian fashion label Del Toro.
