Dre and Snoop talk Gin & Juice in new video

In a new video approved by Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, the pair sat down with Big Boy to discuss their legacy, friendship and bringing Gin & Juice to life more than 30 years after the release of their ‘timeless’ hit.

In the five-minute video shared on their YouTube channel, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg confirmed their brand Gin & Juice is “not a product we are just putting our name on”.

“We went to this laboratory in Chicago. We had to put on the white coats and the old shit and create the gin. It’s not like we’re using somebody else’s gin and putting our name on it, you know – we’re creating the gin, creating the flavours, doing I don’t know how many taste tests and the whole shit. So this is really us,” said Dr Dre.

American radio host and actor Big Boy noted that Gin & Juice has inadvertently received more than 30 years of subliminal marketing prior to its release, which Snoop Dogg explained they didn’t realise at the time.

“We just were having fun,” he says. “It was lifestyle. But [at the time] we’re young. We’re not trying to be businessmen and marketing and branding, we [were] trying to make the dopest fucking music, so we were not even thinking about that. But the point is, this shit is so good that it’s still there, and now we can jump on it and get to it.”

Snoop Dogg explained that in their twenties, the pair would drink gin and juice while in the studio. “We’d pour the milk out [of the gallon bottles] and add half gin, half juice. It was just our drink, it was some hood shit.”

Since then, the pair have worked together on the evolution of the product, from the flavours and the packaging to the ABV percentage.

Big Boy compared the meticulous way the pair have created the product to how they work in the studio, however Dr Dre noted they have a “magnificent team” around them working to help create the product.

“It’s incredible to know that you got something that’s amazing, that you feel is gonna really work,” he said. “And the look of the can and the taste of it is all there, the only thing we have to do is not fuck up. This is not a liquor that we’re just putting our name on, nowhere at all. It’s just like the headphones. You know? It’s like Beats [by Dre]. Everything was us from [the] ground up.”

As the video concluded, Dr Dre said: “We’re shooting to make everything we do magnificent. And fortunately most of the time we hit the target.”
