Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg launch gin
Following the debut of Gin & Juice this year, rappers Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg have entered the spirits sector with the launch of Still G.I.N.
The new ultra-premium gin, Still G.I.N. By Dre and Snoop, is now available nationwide in the US.
The gin marks the second product from the rappers following the release of canned ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail line, Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop.
The RTD brand debuted in the US in February this year, followed by a UK launch in July.
Similar to how the RTD range pays homage to Snoop’s 1994 single Gin and Juice produced by Dr Dre, the new gin is inspired by another song from the pair during the 90s, Still D.R.E.
“This is not a liquor that we’re just putting our name on,” Dr Dre explained. “It’s just like we did with Beats headphones. Everything is us from the ground up: the gin, the flavour, the packaging.
“Everything had to be perfect. Snoop said it best: we’re better together – it’s always magical. It’s incredible to know that you’ve got something amazing that you feel is gonna really work. From the look to the taste, it’s all there.”
Snoop Dogg stated: “Every day in the studio when Dre and I were trying to make the dopest music, we were drinking gin and just having fun.
“We’ve been a part of the evolution of this gin – from the creation of the flavour to the percentage of alcohol that’s in it – and it’s just so good. Dre’s a perfectionist: he wants to make sure it’s not just good but great. Together, we ain’t gonna do nothing regular.”
Still G.I.N.
The citrus-led gin with subtle floral and spice notes is made with a blend of botanicals and by using vapour distillation in a copper pot still.
It is described as a ‘clean and light modern gin’ that is perfect for mixing. It offers notes of tangerine, jasmine, and coriander and has an aromatic finish.
Offered at 42.5% ABV, the gin is distilled and bottled in the US, and distributed nationally through Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits with a suggested retail price of US$34.99.
The honeycomb-inspired 750ml bottle and its packaging was designed by Ini Archibong, who also conceived the branding for the duo’s RTD range.
Alongside its namesake co-founders, the spirits company is led by Patrick Halbert, Andrew Gill and Rocco Milano, founders of bottled cocktail brand On The Rocks, which was acquired by Suntory Global Spirits in 2020.
Gill, chief strategy officer of the brand, stated: “Dre and Snoop were involved in every step – from the bottle design down to getting the perfect harmony of botanical notes and smooth mouth feel into each sip.
“Focusing on the complexity of balancing all-natural botanicals, we blended the spice, botanical, and garden ingredients until we had exactly the right profile – one that appeals to a wide variety of palates, but complex enough to satisfy the most sophisticated gin expert. Together, what we came up with with Dre and Snoop was the gin we’ve always wanted to make.”
